Mayfield and Five Ashes access and public transport

Road access
Mayfield is half a mile off the A267 which runs from Tunbridge Wells south towards Heathfield. It is ten miles from Tunbridge Wells, six miles from Crowborough, and twenty miles from Eastbourne. You can use the postcode “TN20 6AB” to find the centre of Mayfield on Google/Bing maps or on a satnav.

There is public parking for 50 cars in South Street car park, signposted from the High Street. On the High Street there are parking spaces but limited to 2 hour stays. At the top of Court Meadow (King George’s Playing Field) the car parking was extended early in 2015 and now provides spaces for up to 60 cars.

Five Ashes is two miles south of Mayfield on the A267 (two miles further from Tunbridge Wells).  There is limited parking in some side roads.

Public transport
Stagecoach runs regular bus services between Tunbridge Wells and Heathfield/Eastbourne that stop in Mayfield High Street and Five Ashes.    The route is number 51 between Tunbridge Wells and Heathfield but then changes to 251 or 252 between Heathfield and Eastbourne, though you can purchase through tickets and stay on the same bus.

The journey takes 40 minutes from Tunbridge Wells, 15 minutes from Heathfield and between 80 and 100 minutes from Eastbourne.  The service also calls at most of the villages on the way including Frant, Mark Cross, Rotherfield, Cross in Hand, Horam, Hellingly, Hailsham, Polegate and Willingdon. Services run Monday to Saturday half-hourly during the middle of the day with first service around 7am and last one about 7pm.

The nearest train stations are at Tunbridge Wells (with a bus service for the ten miles to Mayfield from the station – see details above) and Wadhurst (limited bus service for the five miles to Mayfield with a bus stop one mile from the station) which are on the London Charing Cross/Cannon Street to Hastings line.
